New Resource: 21st-Century Costs of Underground Distribution
Have the costs of underground electric distribution gone down in the 21st-century?
In this recent T&D World article, PDi2 spokesperson Mike Beehler explores the various advancements in material science, construction, and emerging technology that have helped make the cost of undergrounding T&D assets much more attractive for planners and engineers.
In short, costs are coming down. Previous “rules of thumb” about the higher costs of T&D underground are no longer valid. Data is also beginning to indicate lower life-cycle costs for underground versus overhead distribution.
Mike covers the following topics in the article:
- Material Science and Cable Design
- 3D Design
- Construction Costs
- Operations and Maintenance
